Stevia Rebaudiana
Stevia is native to subtropical and tropical South and Central America. For centuries, the Guarani tribes of Paraguay and Brazil have used stevia as a sweetener in medicinal teas. They called it ka'a he'e which translates to 'sweet herb'. Stevia is a herb with many positive effects and benefits. It is much sweeter than sugar without negative effects and it can sweeten a drink with no calories, no carbohydrates, no tooth decay and is safe for people with diabetes. Stevia is not
absorbed through the digestive tract which means it is non-caloric. Stevia also does not participate in human body metabolism so it does not accumulate in the body.
Stevia has been used in Japan commercially since the 1970's. The Japanese currently consume more stevia than anybody else, with stevia accounting for 40% of the sweetener market. Stevia has also been used for over 30 years in Korea, China and Latin America as a table-top sweetener and natural sugar substitute in a wide variety of foods and beverages. It has also been approved in the United States, and in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Hundreds of studies have been performed on stevia to demonstrate its benefits, including studies that show beneficial effects on hypertension, Type 2 diabetes and in regulating blood sugar. It has also been shown to inhibit the growth and reproduction of some bacteria and infectious organisms including the bacteria that cause tooth decay and gum disease.
Our Stevia Rebaudiana is 100% Organic.
